Comprehensive chimney care for your home's safety and efficiency

Local Chimney Sweep And Cleaning

Creosote builds up every time you burn wood - and it's the #1 cause of chimney fires. We clean the full flue system from top to firebox, removing soot, glazed creosote, and blockages so your chimney draws properly and your family stays safe.

Chimney Inspection

Level 1, 2, or 3 - we match the inspection to the situation. Buying a home? Level 2 with video. Annual checkup? Level 1 covers it. We document everything with photos and give you a clear report, not a sales pitch.

Chimney Repair

Cracked crowns, crumbling mortar joints, damaged flue tiles - we fix what's broken before it becomes a bigger problem. Most repairs take a day or less, and we'll show you exactly what needs work before we start.

Chimney Cap Installation

A chimney without a cap is an open invitation for rain, raccoons, and downdrafts. We install stainless steel and copper caps with built-in spark arrestors, custom-sized to fit your flue opening exactly.

Chimney Liner

Older chimneys often have cracked clay tiles or no liner at all - both are fire hazards. We install stainless steel and cast-in-place liners that meet current code and actually improve your draft.

Chimney Masonry Repair

Brick and mortar don't last forever, especially in humid climates. We repoint deteriorated joints, replace spalled bricks, and match existing materials so the repair blends in. Catches water problems before they reach your interior walls.

Chimney Flashing Repair

That dark stain on your ceiling near the chimney? Probably failed flashing. We remove the old material, install new step and counter flashing, and seal everything properly. Stops leaks at the source.

Chimney Rebuilds

When repair isn't enough, we rebuild. From the roofline up or from the foundation - depends on how far the damage goes. New masonry, new liner, new cap, new flashing. Done right so you won't need us again for decades.

Chimney Animal Removal

Scratching sounds? Foul smell? Birds, squirrels, and raccoons love chimneys. We remove them humanely, clear out nesting material, and cap the flue so they can't get back in.

Fireplace Cleaning

Ash piling up in the firebox, soot on the damper, smoke stains on the surround - we clean it all. Includes the firebox, smoke shelf, and damper assembly. Your fireplace will look and work like it should.

Chimney Fireplace Repair

Smoke pouring into the room instead of going up? Damper stuck? Cracked smoke chamber? We diagnose the actual problem - not guess - and fix it. Most fireplace issues are straightforward once you know where to look.

Firebox Repair

Cracked firebricks and deteriorated refractory panels are more than cosmetic - they let heat reach combustible framing behind the wall. We replace damaged bricks and mortar with proper heat-rated materials.

Gas Fireplace Cleaning

Gas fireplaces still need annual service. Dust coats the burner and logs, the pilot assembly corrodes, and the glass fogs up. We clean the full unit - burner, pilot, glass, and venting - so it runs clean and stays under warranty.

Gas Fireplace Repair

Pilot won't stay lit? No heat? Remote stopped working? We troubleshoot gas fireplace issues from thermocouples to valve assemblies. Certified on all major brands - Heatilator, Lennox, Napoleon, Majestic, and more.

Wood Stove Repair

Door gaskets wear out, baffles warp, glass cracks. We service all wood stove brands - replace worn parts, adjust the door seal, and make sure your stove drafts correctly. Gets your heat output back where it should be.

Pellet Stove Repair

Auger jams, igniter failures, control board errors - pellet stoves have more moving parts than most people realize. We diagnose and repair the issue, clean the exhaust path, and get your stove feeding and burning properly again.

Duct Cleaning

Your HVAC pushes air through every duct in the house - along with whatever's living in them. Dust, pet dander, mold spores, construction debris. We clean the full system and you'll notice the difference in air quality immediately.

Dryer Duct Cleaning

Lint in your dryer vent is a fire waiting to happen - it's one of the top causes of house fires nationally. We clean the full run from the dryer to the exterior vent. Clothes dry faster, energy bill drops, fire risk gone.

Commercial Air Duct Cleaning

Restaurants, offices, multi-unit buildings - commercial ductwork collects grease, dust, and allergens at scale. We schedule after hours to keep your business running and bring your system up to health code standards.

Chimney Cap Installation

September 25, 2025 Commercial
Problem

The commercial chimney chase and flue were left open and without a functional cap or chase cover, leaving the metal flue exposed above a weathered wood chase. Roof shingles adjacent to the chimney showed buckling and minimal step flashing, and interior firebox masonry had loose bricks and exposed original masonry while external crown/parging work was in progress.

Solution

Installed a stainless steel chimney cap with storm collar and metal curb flashing on the wood‑clad chase, and fitted new metal flashing and step flashing with a fastened apron and sealant at the brick chimney junction to address potential water intrusion. Continued the refractory firebrick lining installation inside the firebox, parged the crown, and prepared/masked surrounding areas for masonry repainting and final chase cover installation.

The new cap and flashing now protect the flue and chase from water intrusion and the completed refractory lining improves fire performance and durability; remaining cosmetic painting and final chase cover installation are underway. Customer was advised that the buckled shingles near the chimney should be evaluated by a roofer for long‑term repair.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions from South Hill

What's the typical cost for a chimney sweeping and inspection in the South Hill area, and what affects that price? LOCAL

+

For South Hill residents, the typical cost for a chimney cleaning and inspection ranges from $175 to $300. This price can be affected by various local factors, such as roof height and accessibility issues, which may lead to higher labor costs. The humidity in our area, combined with the use of local woods like pine, can result in stickier creosote buildup, necessitating a more thorough cleaning. We ensure transparency in our pricing, providing a detailed inspection to confirm the safety of your chimney. We can give you an accurate quote over the phone based on your specific circumstances.

With the humid climate we get here in South Hill, VA, how often do I really need my chimney inspected and swept? LOCAL

+

In South Hill, it is recommended to have your chimney inspected and swept annually. The increased humidity can accelerate deterioration, affecting mortar joints and other components, which could lead to costly repairs if neglected. Our local climate can also cause creosote to become more corrosive, making it imperative to schedule regular inspections. While the standard recommendation is yearly, some homeowners may need inspections more frequently depending on usage. Regular maintenance helps avoid fire risks and ensures chimney efficiency, ultimately protecting your family and home.

When is the best time of year to schedule my chimney sweep in South Hill, VA, considering our specific weather patterns? LOCAL

+

In South Hill, the best time to schedule your chimney sweep is during late spring or summer, typically from April to August. Once the first cool breeze hits in autumn, appointment slots fill quickly, leaving many homeowners scrambling. By scheduling in the off-season, you ensure flexibility in timing and the potential for early repairs should issues arise. Cleaning prior to the colder months also prevents musty odors caused by moisture buildup during summer. Planning ahead means you can enjoy your first fire of the season without any delays or concerns.

Living in South Hill, we get some intense thunderstorms and remnants of hurricanes. Are there specific chimney safety issues I should look for after a big storm? LOCAL

+

In South Hill, after heavy storms or hurricanes, it's vital to inspect your chimney for potential damage. Start by checking the chimney cap for looseness as strong winds can displace it, leaving your flue unprotected. Look for new water stains around your fireplace; these could indicate flashing issues. A quick visual inspection can reveal cracks or missing mortar where moisture could seep in. If you notice anything concerning, it's wise to call a professional for an inspection to prevent further complications. Staying proactive helps ensure your home remains safe through Virginia's stormy weather.

I'm planning to install a new wood stove and chimney in my South Hill home. Are there any specific local or Virginia state regulations I need to follow? LOCAL

+

If you're planning to install a new wood stove or chimney in South Hill, understanding local regulations is essential. All installations must adhere to the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code, which sets safety standards for venting systems and chimneys. Clearances, specifications for flue liners, and minimum height above the roofline need to be followed. You will definitely need to secure a building permit from the town or Mecklenburg County prior to installation. This ensures that a proper inspection can be completed, safeguarding your family and meeting your homeowner's insurance requirements. We can assist you with the permitting process for a hassle-free experience.
